Synopsis : Premnagar is a 1940 movie directed and produced by Mohan Dayaram Bhavnani starring Hasna Banu, Bimla Kumari, Rai Mohan, Fattu Prasad and Gulzar in lead roles. Karan Singh belongs to a wealthy family who lives in a palace along with his widowed mother, an elder brother, Shamsher, his wife and daughter named Meena. His mother, Rani Maa, was not bothered much about this kid since his childhood as she spent most of her time playing cards and left his upbringing to his nanny. As a result, Karan ended up treating her like his real mother. Now matured, a womanizer and an alcoholic, he comes to the rescue of a former air hostess, Lata, who is being molested by her boss, who hires her as his secretary. He permits her parents, sister and brother to move into one of his cottages. Lata attempts to change his bad habits, She initially meets with opposition, but eventually succeeds. They fall in love. Karan builds a palace and names it 'Prem Nagar'. Their fairy tale world is shattered when Lata is accused of interfering in palace affairs and blamed for stealing a valuable necklace — with hir mother testifying that she found it in Lata's purse. As a result, a much-humiliated Lata quits and her family moves out.
