DD Urdu (short for Doordarshan Urdu) is a state owned TV channel. It is being telecasted from Doordarshan Kendra in Delhi, India. The channel was formally launched on 15 August 2006. The decision by Indian government was a response to un-starred question No. 2026. The Government made a commitment in response to this question related to Urdu Channel launch in the country.
The channel is on air for at present for 24 hours from 14th November 2007. It is widely appreciated in India for abridging heritage and cultural gap among communities across the country. It also offers shows based on information, education, literature, and societal issues specific to the target audience. The mandate and inter-alia of this channel is to revive and revitalize the idiom, the language rules and the lingual behaviour believed to have lost into oblivion with the passage of time.
DD Urdu has successfully infused fresh blood in its recent list of shows with the rejuvenation of television activities initiative that came into effect since 15th January, 2014.
