It was launched in 2006 by Times Global Broadcasing Company Limited, (joint-venture of The Times Group (Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd.) and Reuters. Based in Mumbai and broadcasted in three countries India, Singapore and USA, the channel has gained immense popularity in the recent years. Arnab Goswami is the present Editor-in Chief for the channel. Sunil Lulla is the current CEO.
The news channel was the first in India to be launched on mobile screens. The facility was available under Reliance Infocomm Network. An episode on the Siachin Glacier of Line of Duty, a series anchored by Maroof Raza, Consultant cum Strategic Affairs Expert on the Indian armed forces won an Award at the Rome Film Festival in the year 2005. The TV series also entered the Limca Book of Records for being first military reality show of the country.
